V-Net are the Asia-Pacific leaders in vendor managed inventory (VMI) retail solutions. They offer a software-as-a-service (SaaS) product that allows retail suppliers to manage inventory and logistics at a retail store level. The idea being that no retailer will ever know as much about a supplier's product and market as the supplier, so why not delegate all aspects of stock management and promotion to the supplier.

Systems Xpert currently supports and maintains the SaaS web application, while we help to build V-Net's ability to support the software internally. Additionally, in 2008, our largest project to date was performed for V-Net.

This project involved a complete 8-bit to 16-bit Unicode conversion of the V-Net Solutions software, including approximately 1,000,000 lines of IBM RPG and J2EE source code. Initially, our involvement with the IBM RPG side of the conversion was to project manage a global IT services company. However, after evaluating their plan, Systems Xpert recommended taking this part of the project on with our partners, Chunk Systems, and delivered the project for about 10% of the quote from the global IT company.

Systems Xpert also developed our "Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming" course for V-Net, who were very happy with its content and delivery.

Datgel is a software firm and consultancy specializing in geotechnical engineering. They are the Asia-Pacific distributors of gINT, the world's leading geotechnical data management application. Systems Xpert has performed several projects for Datgel since 2007, some of which remain confidential.

Most recently, in August 2009, Systems Xpert developed a desktop application for Datgel to market, the Datgel Processor Affinity Manager. Some programs that incorporate old components from 16-bit Windows or DOS will only run on the first processor in a modern multi-core computer. This is of particular concern to people running their desktops on Windows Terminal Server, because it means that many instances of the application will be using just one of many processors and remaining processing power cannot be utilized, creating extremely slow performance. Datgel Processor Affinity Manager forces each new instance of such an application to run on other processors in a round-robin allocation, ensuring that a system's processors are used efficiently.

In 2008, Systems Xpert helped Datgel hire a Software Development Team Leader, by structuring a rigorous interview process that gained a detailed insight into the technical knowledge and suitability of candidates.

The ABC is Australia's mainstream public broadcaster. Starting radio broadcasts in 1923, the ABC now has 5 nation radio networks, two national TV networks and one of Australia's most visited Web sites. The advent of digital broadcasting means that more specialized services will be created in the near future.

The former employer of our principal consultant and our first client, Systems Xpert has performed several consulting and software development projects for this ABC.

Most recently, in 2007, we developed our Web Farm Real Stress Test application and implemented it for the ABC to perform real-time and real condition load and performance testing for an upgraded deployment of its Web site search engine. The application takes any number of web server access logs, in the w3c format, and executes each request in the logs at variable speed and load.

Prior to this, we conducted a technology options review into the use of multimedia message services (MMS) to receive pictures from audience members for the News and Current Affairs division; and, developed a prototype content management (CMS) application using XML User Interface Language (XUL) and Mozilla XULRunner for the client application and Documentum Server as the content repository.

UNSW Press is the publishing business of the University of New South Wales, Sydney. They publish academic and general interest titles on topics including current affairs, history, religion, the arts and humanities, science, environmental studies and health. In 2006, UNSW Press commissioned Systems Xpert to develop an online subscription journal for The Law Handbook, one of their bestselling titles. The site served over 500 individual users for corporate and personal subscriptions for 2 years. The title has since been sold to another publisher who have not continued using the site we developed.

Barrington Lime operates a small mine on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales, about 100 kilometers north of Newcastle. Limestone is extracted and milled on site to produce lime (calcium carbonate) for spreading on agricultural land as a fertilizer and soil neutralizing agent. The lime is also used in neutralizing coal for power generation and coal tailings, to reduce the environmental effects of coal mining. Operation of the mine began in 2008.

Systems Xpert was commissioned to provide management consulting for the business startup, particularly with regard to business processes, marketing strategy, governance, training plans and financial management processes. The resulting strategy and process documents formed the blueprint for the foundation and ongoing operations of the business.

Our graphic design partner, Red Ant Media, introduced us to JCIS Consultants in 2006. JCIS required a simple, easy to use Web content management system (CMS) and were not satisfied with the open source systems then available. As one of our first projects, we developed a lightweight, usable CMS which powers the Web site to this day.

We have continued to consult to JCIS Consultants on technology matters and implemented their small business network in 2008.
